Hey! What's that in the last panel? Characters that aren't Siv or Gib? No way! You thought I got my fill of drawing other characters last week, didn't you? Nope! I draw Siv the same every time, but I've made Gib's hair longer and shaved his mustache in accordance with my own. Still, drawing those two can grow tiresome. I've been reading some Ed Dorkey comics lately... I really like them, I like that 90s late-underground style. As opposed to this comic's minimalist modern style. Although I tried to emulate underground comix when I first sketched Siv and Gib, my manga obsession and some other influences changed into the mish-mash modern cartoon stuff... it almost reminds me of Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time and Stephen Universe... a little Scott Pilgrim too. I could probably just draw character after character, but for some reason people demand dialogue and consistency. Luckily in this comic I focus more on the art, which takes time but pays off. In Raccoon Quddies it's more minimalist with timing and beat panels tossed in, and I focus on the gags. This author comment... surely it's longer than Siv's will be by now? I'm sure you've stopped reading by now. If anyone ever comes to this site they'll wonder why Riese went insane on February 15. The reason? Turns out Siv shackles me to a rigid schedule which results in outbursts of madness!! Aha, I kid. I always read your comments Siv, so you better read this!

Everyone loves post-modernist deconstruction! Except maybe philosophers. They aren't really sold on it, since they demand a lot of internal consistency and rigor before adopting a model. But it works really well for analyzing cultures, texts, and societies, and that's enough to float my intellectual boat (not sure where this metaphor is going). It's much better than formalism, the bane of my existence, anyhow.

It does get kind of awkward though, when someone starts talking about sportsball and all you can think of in your head is "imagined community", "nationalism", "representations of masculinity", "violence", "race"...It can make conversations a bit uncomfortable. But ignoring problematic ideologies in our culture doesn't make them go away, we need to see them first before we can solve them.

I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out. We'll try doing some more seasonal updates in the future I suppose.

What I want to know is how does that cardboard box support his weight. Or Does Riese have helium running through his veins. Or maybe his bones are made of Balsa wood ;)
